The story so far …

Emma ForbesWelcome to Forbes Style! I thought I should write a bit about myself – particularly as many of you know I took some time out of the telly world when I had my two kids and was therefore off the media radar for a bit! I didn’t get back into my skinny jeans two weeks after childbirth (to be honest I think it took years!!). And I very much stepped out of the limelight to just enjoy motherhood!

Before I had kids, I was a career woman 100%. When I had my two children, my world was rocked in the best possible way! Working in telly became hard, the ‘juggling’ a challenge and it became a military precision exercise to leave the house. It still is to be honest … but I love the juggle and mayhem of life!!

I found motherhood a job I felt I hadn’t fully read the manual for, so each day was a huge learning curve. I was overly protective, paranoid about what each cry meant and could literally while away hours staring in wonderment at each of my children when they would sleep! Mind you sleep wasn’t something that happened very much for the first few years …

So, I am now the parent of an 11 year old boy and a teenager daughter of 13. Hugely biased, proud and hands-on parent. I am not sure I get it right all the time, I just try to do my best.

I have never wanted to be a mother that wasn’t there for the temperature at 2 am, for the sometimes lovely cosy days of Disney DVDs and duvets, nor missing the school play with the ‘one line’ moment.

I know that my time with them while their wings are growing is limited – they are not going to be hanging out with me at home having a disney/duvet day at 18 (well, I hope not!) And nor am I going to be dropping off forgotten English homework to avoid detentions forever. So I aim to relish as much of it as I can, whilst still having a career of my own. But they are and always will be, alongside my husband, my number one priority.

I hope you enjoy Forbes Style as much as I do bringing it to you!

    Hi Emma

Great to see you again last night. Thought you looked stunning, spoke very well and I met your family who are lovely. Jay’s films are fantastic, just the right length and very stylish and aspirational. You’d make a killing in America. I’ve just come back from 2 years of living near San Fran and the pressure to bake, wrap and do crafts for everything from Valentines to Easter to St Partricks Day to Thanksgiving to Chinese New Year was HUGE!

Good luck with it all, I’ll be sure to spread the word.

  4. Hi Emma

You are a true inspiration and loving and devoted Mother and Wife. Your kids and Hubby must be very very proud of you. You have kept things together and still come out on top, yes you have been away from our TV Screens for a while, but never away from alot of peoples hearts.

Its about time now though that those with the power to do so give you a decent slot in the TV schedules, I can just see you with your own chat show / style advice show on an early evening slot, maybe even a telly version of Forbestyle? with Viewer phone ins??

Anyway keep up the great work and great advices.

Hi Emma, I follow you on twitter and finally got round to clicking on the link for Forbestyle. I love it! It will now be part of my daily routine. My children are 21 and nearly 25 they are my greatest achievements. I definately follow your school of thought, I was fortunate enough to spend every moment with them both as they were growing up. Loved it! Loving the videos.
    Kindest regards

  6. Hi Emma,

In this era where so many people are willing sell of their souls, or be humiliated, on reality or talent shows for a little fame. It’s nice to see someone who knows how to “keep it real”.

As an “older” follower I recall watching you with my own children, to know you have such high family values is refreshing, to say the least. Far to many celebrities seem to forget such core values & the influence they have on their followers.

Five years ago I had a heart attack & it changed my life. My “middle” daughter was pregnant at the time, as I was recovering she invited me into the delivery room to see my first grand child born. I had the privilege of holding my grand daughter moments after being born. It made a bond between me & her that holds tight to this day. She’s now four years old, & “gran gran” is the go-to person for a hug. It helped my recovery & re-focused my life to live, & see them grow up, in the same way I have my own.
